the musician life

last week, I went to the east of Iceland with 2 objectives: to participate in a trail run and to play some shows.

I started off by going to Seyðisfjörður where I had a gig planned at Kiosk 108, a small art venue & bar located by the pier in an old captain's bridge. It couldn't have gone much worse; technical difficulties resulted in my set being delayed by an hour and once I was off and running, the owner asked me to stop as they didn't feel the style of music was appropriate.

I reluctantly reduced my setup to only my tenor saxophone and went on the roof - much to the delight of the town's explorers - one of whom sent me these pictures:

The gig itself was a complete failure in my books, but it was a good learning experience, and even though I didn't particularly enjoy the performance itself, I met some great people and came out with some pretty cool pictures in the process.

Next stop was Egilsstaðir, where I played in Tehúsið; this one went much better. I'm still very much learning as I go with my gear, and it was great to get the opportunity to do that in a live setting with complete freedom to experiment, take my time and build each song from beginning to end.

I'm only just starting to learn how to work my equipment and I'm grateful to everyone who's willing to provide me with an opportunity to experiment with my setup in a live setting - even those that pull out once they hear my music!
